2026-10-06 · Industry News

On July 31, 2023, the bidding result of the “50-classroom lighting retrofit and installation procurement” of Chongqing No. 111 Middle School was announced, and HUMUBAO Lighting became the awarded supplier of this project

Quick Answer

On July 31, 2023, HUMUBAO Lighting completed a classroom lighting renovation project for 50 classrooms at Chongqing No. 111 Middle School. After the renovation, the maintained average illuminance on desk surfaces reached 501 lx with a uniformity of 0.93, and the average illuminance on blackboard surfaces reached 671 lx, all exceeding the requirements of the GB 7793 national standard.

On July 31, 2023, the bidding transaction announcement for "Lighting Renovation and Installation Procurement for 50 Classrooms" of Chongqing No. 111 Middle School was released, and HUMUBAO Lighting became the winning supplier for this project, providing overall delivery of lighting renovation for all 50 classrooms of the school. This article reviews the renovation approach, luminaire configuration, and implementation results of this project.

I. Project Overview

Project Content: Procurement Item: Lighting Renovation and Installation Procurement for 50 Classrooms; Purchaser: Chongqing No. 111 Middle School; Procurement Method: Bidding; Transaction Announcement Date: July 31, 2023; Winning Supplier: HUMUBAO Lighting (Zhongshan HUMUBAO Lighting Technology Co., Ltd.); Renovation Scope: 50 classrooms across the school, including replacement and installation of classroom lights and blackboard lights, as well as removal of old luminaires

II. Before Renovation: Three Typical Problems of Old Fluorescent Lamps

Like most schools built in the last century, the classroom lighting of No. 111 Middle School generally had three problems before renovation:

1. Insufficient illuminance and severe degradation. After several years of use, old T8 fluorescent tubes showed obvious lumen depreciation. Measured illuminance on desk surfaces was generally below the 300lx required by national standards, with large illuminance differences between window-side and inner-wall areas. Students in the back rows of classrooms were chronically in a poor lighting environment.

2. Flicker and glare. The flicker of fluorescent lamps with magnetic ballasts is difficult to perceive with the naked eye but objectively exists, and prolonged fixation easily causes visual fatigue. With exposed tubes emitting direct light, glare control was out of the question.

3. Blackboard lighting was missing or nominal. In some classrooms, blackboard light positions were improperly installed, and blackboard surface illuminance was uneven, bright on both sides and dark in the middle, making it difficult to read the board.

III. Renovation Plan: Configuration List for 50 Classrooms

According to the functional zoning of classrooms, the standard configuration we provided was:

  • LED classroom light: National AA-grade full-spectrum classroom light, replacing the original fluorescent tube position. The continuous spectrum of the full-spectrum chip is close to natural light, with a high color rendering index and true color reproduction; the anti-glare design controls the glare value, so students are not dazzled when looking up.
  • LED full-spectrum blackboard light: Polarized design, with the light spot concentrated on the blackboard surface, ensuring blackboard illuminance and uniformity while avoiding direct glare into students' eyes. According to the requirements of the new national standard GB 7793,the blackboard light must support independent dimming, making it convenient to dim with one touch in multimedia teaching scenarios.

The number and positions of luminaires in each classroom are calculated individually based on the classroom's length, width, floor height and desk layout. The 50 classrooms are constructed in batches and accepted room by room.

IV. Construction and Delivery

The hard constraint for school construction isnot affecting normal teaching. This project uses the holiday window for concentrated construction: removing old lights and ballasts, installing new lights according to the point layout drawing, power-on commissioning, checking illuminance uniformity room by room, and finally cleaning the site and removing old lights. The 50 classrooms are advanced in batches by building; each room is self-inspected upon completion before being handed over to the school for confirmation.

V. After Renovation: Looking at Data Against National Standards

After the renovation is completed, key indicators are compared against the requirements of the "Hygienic Standard for Day Lighting and Artificial Lighting for Primary and Middle Schools":

Metric National standard requirement After renovation Maintained average illuminance on classroom desk ≥300 lx 501 lx Uniformity of classroom desk illuminance ≥0.7 0.93 Maintained average illuminance on blackboard surface ≥500 lx 671 lx Uniformity of blackboard surface illuminance ≥0.8 0.82 Unified Glare Rating (UGR) ≤19 11.3 Color Rendering Index (Ra) ≥80 97

From bid closing to the overall delivery of 50 classrooms, this project has proven HUMUBAO's integrated delivery capability of "product + solution + construction." For buyers, classroom lighting renovation is not just about replacing lamps: whether luminaire selection aligns with national standards, whether point layout design is reasonable, whether construction does not disrupt teaching, and whether acceptance data meet standards — every step affects the final lighting environment.

HUMUBAO Lighting focuses on educational lighting, with a product line covering LED classroom lights, full-spectrum blackboard lights, and eye-protection desk lamps, supporting customized spectra, and test reports are available for all models. School and engineering contractor customers are welcome to visit the factory and request samples for testing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What illuminance level can be achieved on desk surfaces after classroom lighting renovation?
After the renovation, the measured maintained average illuminance on desk surfaces was 501 lx with a uniformity of 0.93, both exceeding the national standard requirements of ≥300 lx and ≥0.7. The illuminance difference between window-side and interior-wall-side desks was also significantly reduced.
What national standard requirements must blackboard lights meet?
According to the new edition of the GB 7793 national standard, blackboard lights must support independent dimming, allowing one-touch dimming for multimedia teaching. In this project, the maintained average illuminance on blackboard surfaces reached 671 lx with a uniformity of 0.82, exceeding the requirements of ≥500 lx and ≥0.8.
Will classroom lighting renovation affect normal classes?
No. This project uses the holiday window for concentrated construction: removing old fixtures and ballasts, installing new lights according to the layout plan, powering up and commissioning, and checking illuminance uniformity room by room. The 50 classrooms are completed in batches by building, and each room is handed over to the school for confirmation after passing self-inspection.
What levels of glare and color rendering index can the classroom lights achieve?
For this project, the unified glare value UGR was measured at 11.3, lower than the national standard requirement of ≤19; the color rendering index Ra reaches 97, higher than the requirement of ≥80. The full-spectrum chip provides a continuous spectrum close to natural light, delivering true color reproduction.
What are the main lighting problems in classrooms with old fluorescent lamps?
There are mainly three: after light decay of T8 fluorescent tubes, desk illuminance is generally below the national standard of 300 lx; magnetic ballasts cause flicker, and direct glare from the tubes is difficult to control; improper installation of blackboard lights leads to uneven illuminance on the blackboard surface, with the two sides bright and the middle dark.
